Valentine's Day 2011 Emotes
These are the options on the wheel for my Valentine's Day card.
First things first, Boo (the ghost from Super Mario World) is traced. I wanted it to look exactly as Boo does in the game, and this is a personal project and not something for sale, so I used Illustrator to trace a picture of it. I included Boo because I thought it would get a laugh from the recipient... It did!
The default image is the heart, so the kitty can return the puppy's sentiment.
After the heart, the illustrations are hungry, happy, dead, love, quiet/sad, horror/shock, and annoyed (aka the dirty look). Boo could represent anything from video-game-time to I'm-gonna-scare-you, but mostly it's a symbol of my randomness.
The pictures were meant to be both representative and humorous. I didn't want a single one to be boring or "filler." I drew a bunch of different ideas and narrowed it down to nine. Some of the emotes that got didn't make it are spacey/dazed, sleeping, crying, and zombified.
I doodled the pictures on scrap paper first, but I worked from scratch in Adobe Illustrator to draw, color, and shade the illustrations (except for Boo, who was traced from an image I found online). Working in Illustrator made it super easy to measure out the wheel and get everything perfectly situated.
